The Black Orb - Rituel de Fille

The Black Orb Enigmatic Kohl Eyeliner casts the deepest shadows, and smokes out into the darkest gaze. This cruelty-free formula is richly pigmented, deep, moody, and dramatic, and can be worn in a wide range of applications. Its mysterious jar invites creativity and allows for greater flexibility in application styles and techniques versus a pencil eyeliner. If you have searched as we did for the perfect inky, moody, dramatic kohl eyeliner, this may move you as much as it does us.

HOW TO APPLY

The Black Orb Enigmatic Kohl Eyeliner is neither gel nor powder, and its crème formula behaves with different properties. We recommend using your favorite brushes for application. For a winged eyeliner look, or a soft cat eye, we recommend an angled liner brush. To create a lived-in smoky look, apply with a smudge brush and diffuse out with a soft-bristled shadow brush like The Eye Soot Brush. With just a bit of practice, it can also be applied with fingertips for a smudgy, smoky and perfectly imprecise application.

The Black Orb is formulated to set without a harsh dry down. To best allow the film former to work its magic, we recommend applying in thin layers to allow the product to set, rather than doing a heavy single application. However, The Black Orb remains workable, which allows for a more forgiving application. The nonvolatile formula also ensures gentle wear on the delicate skin around your eyes. If you have hooded or extremely oily lids, you may wish to dust a layer of translucent powder on top after application to lock it in further.

    Obsessed

I am obsessed with this color. The purple-red really brings out the green in my hazel eyes. It’s a perfect medium tone that creates impact without feeling stark or overwhelming. I’ve worn it as a sharp cat eye or smudged out on the eyelid, and it works beautifully either way. I’ve also dabbed it lightly onto lipstick to deepen the contrast (this works especially well with the Enchanted Lip Sheer in Water Violet). I think I’ve worn it everyday since it arrived in the mail.

    Beautiful and longwearing

A wonderful addition to the black orb line. A cooler toned purple, I also own Iron and feel this shade is meaningfully different. Works nicely as a wash of color on the lids, as an eyeliner, and with a small brush this formula also makes a delightful lip liner. These aren't the most opaque in one layer, but they're super blendable, so assess your personal needs. This shade does not stain my skin either.

    Even clumsy it's great

I have only used eyeliner pencils, but I couldn't resist this color. I cautiously pulled my Eyebrow brush through the pot, then drew it along the base of my eyelashes. Repeated till both eyes were outlined. Slipped a bit, not perfect, but I still liked it. Will be practicing more. Might even try it as a lip liner.

    Cool, soft sibling of Iron

I loved the Iron color of black orb, but it always blended out a little too allergies-red on my skintone (rosey, pale, blue-green undertones) unless I did a lot of blending with other shadows. I have been wishing for a cooler version and Twilight is that. Not blackened, still achieves a softer lined look like Iron does, but much more flattering on me. The formula creases on bare lids for me but primer and translucent powder do the trick.

    Hard to Pin

This shade is a bit hard to pin down for me. It is dark with some mauve tones but in some lights I also swear it looks a bit brown. Not as purple or dramatic as the Inky Aubergine. More manageable everyday shade. Would recommend.
