Rituel de Fille started with an idea...and basically nothing else. We had no investors, no retail connections, no contract manufacturers, no industry insider status. But at the very beginning, we yearned for something we'd never seen before: boldly pigmented lipstick, made from a narrow range of fascinating natural ingredients. To imbue it with deeper meaning, formulation was at the very heart of everything.

Talking to third-party manufacturers, reality hit hard: if we wanted truly custom formulas, we couldn't meet their order minimums. They offered off-the-shelf formulas instead. To actually create something new, we couldn't have someone else do it for us. We'd have to learn to make makeup ourselves.

It took years—and a lot of bad lipsticks—before we finally made a good one. When we finally launched, now more than 12 years ago, our friends were our earliest customers—and our most important product experts.

Making our own formulas with our own hands meant that we could do things differently. From these moments of human connection, we could ensure our potions sparked inspiration, joy, and creative exploration.

More than 6 years ago, we found a way to expand that connecting gossamer web. We took a huge risk: sharing a new formula with you before it was locked into the final launch.

At the point where we loved it, where we were sure we had it—we opened our doors and invited our community in. As a small, independent brand, this moment and all the many more that followed have meant that we can devotedly serve our iconoclastic community, and be sure you feel truly heard. We call this a Lab Access Release.

More than 15 years ago, it all started with lipstick. Now, for our 10th Lab Access Release, it all comes back to lipstick.
