The Collection

This Color Set contains all three shades of the Shadow Spectrum collection. Together, they capture a full range of unexpected darkness for creative exploration in eye looks.

The Colors

Dusk // An inky blue of hypnotizing richness. Dusk is at once dark and vibrant, smoky and bright. This shade evokes the churning sea, the twilight sky, and precious lapis lazuli.

Cinder // A bold, cool-toned storm gray for looks both subtle and daring. Cinder is at once moody and approachable, nostalgic and ultramodern. This shade evokes ominous storm clouds, delicate ashes, and cold slate.

Iron // A deep, sultry red evoking the depths of blood, wine and rust. Iron is at once unexpected and utterly flattering. This is the long-requested return of a beloved shade, exclusive to our site and to be made only in small batches.

ABOUT THE PIGMENT AND ITS USAGE
Dusk is created with the deep blue of ultramarine pigment. Historically ultramarine pigment was made from lapis lazuli stone ground into a fine powder, and this resulted in the rarest blue pigment used in Renaissance painting. Though it also beautifully reflects the pigment’s hue, the name ‘ultramarine’ comes from 14th- and 15th-century Italian traders referencing its origin ‘beyond the sea’ from mines in Afghanistan.

Like other mineral pigments, modern cosmetics-grade ultramarine is synthesized for safety, as mined pigments may contain notable levels of heavy metals. Ultramarine pigment is approved for use in the United States for eyes and face, but not lips. In the European Union, ultramarine is approved for use on eyes, face and lips.

    Stunning

I've been on the hunt for the Perfect red eye shadow/liner for ages. Everything was either too bright a red, not pigmented enough, didn't last, etc. Until now! This color is everything I was looking for. It's the perfect shade of red: a beautiful oxblood shade, bright enough to be punchy but not too much. The pigmentation is divine, and it lasts throughout the day even with slightly oily lids. I'm only mad I didn't get this sooner!

Blue isn’t as creamy as the others

I love the eyeliners here. I live by them. I don’t even wear makeup anymore except for art stuff, but I will never let myself run out of the red eyeliner.

The blue on the other hand… it’s fine. I know blue pigments are difficult to work with, especially in makeup, so I should have expected the final product to be less forgiving than the other shades… but this one has a much drier touch and finish, and it leads to a lot of tearing (for me). Once I start tearing up, the blue eyeliner runs right off. It’s probably good if you don’t have sensitive eyes, but I think the amount of pigment needed to make this blue really pop just doesn’t work with my eyes and my skin. Maybe you’ll be different! Hopefully the future formula for the blue shades will be gentler without sacrificing the saturation 🤞

    Beautiful blue

This is an interesting color. It starts out blue but blurs into a blue grey. I love the effect. So easy to use and so pretty.

    Needs work but is ok

This is my first Black Orb eyeliner (Dusk) and based on other reviews it may be different than the others but it does require some work. You have to work the brush in the pot back and forth before you can get a good solid amount on the brush to apply without being patchy. It may be the kohl that makes it seem dry at first? Once it's on it's pretty but it doesn't last all day. I just don't know if I like this formula and would buy again.

I love my orb. The pigment is very strong but creamy and blends well. Gorgeous earthen red. I use brushes to apply then my finger to smooth. Mostly for my eyes, but sometimes lips with the addition of gloss.

A little bit goes a long way, so apply cautiously until you figure out how much works for you. It does collect in the crease of the eyelid after a while, but blends back easily with a fingertip.

    Love it!

I use this as both all over base and a liner with a brush. The color is beautiful and easy to work with as both a base and a tighter liner (I don’t do a super sharp line but it’s not totally smudged either).
