As an oily skin girly living in the deep South... Keeping a matte finish on my face is a daily struggle. Too often I lean towards drying products with questionable ingredients, so I decided to try a brand with quality formulas and ethics.

By itself, this foundation was weightless and beautiful but didn't quite dry down on my face. A couple hours later it could be wiped off with a tissue.

However, it was sheer perfection with a mattifying primer and setting powder.

I've found my foundation holy grail and am excited to try other products by Rituel de Fille!

I so wanted to love this foundation because the finish is very nice, it’s a thin and comfortable formula, and being able to use so little is an obvious plus. Unfortunately, I seem to be allergic to one of the ingredients (I suspect it’s the Blakeslea Trispora Mycelium Extract, as the other ingredients are familiar/not problematic for my skin) and broke out in a rash all over my face after using this a couple of times. Thankfully, I bought samples rather than the full bottle so I didn’t waste too much money. If you have sensitive skin, this is a formula you definitely want to patch test.

I’ll also point out that the shades are somewhat deceptive and end up looking lighter on application than they do in the bottle. I was almost certain that 105 would be my best shade based on the swatch images, and it looks like a dead-on match if you hold the bottle up next to my neck/jaw, but it goes on much lighter once you start to blend. So I would definitely recommend getting the sample set and trying at least one shade darker than you think you’ll need. I also think there are some gaps in this shade range. 105 was too light, 115 was too dark, and 110 was too pink. I find it odd that the olive shades jump from “very fair” to “light” with no “fair” option in the middle.

I’m very glad I tried a sample set first because the color that wound up matching me best was not the shade I expected. The foundations are silky and provide good coverage without making everything look flat. The samples provide enough to do a few tests so you have the best chance at picking your color. Highly recommended!

I really like that I could get 3 colors since I had no idea which Rituel de Fille color would be my color match. The best part about that was that I was able to use the two colors that weren't matches for highlighters and concealers. The product keeps its promise-I only need 3 drops to cover my face using a foundation brush. Not sure it would be the same with a beauty blender-I didn't try it that way. It has a nice coverage while feeling lightweight and glowy. I think it is a nice alternative to my other current complexion options- a heavier liquid foundation by Haus Labs and a tinted moisturizer by Laura Mercier. This product is definitely in between those two, and has a place in my collection now!
