Ingredient: Annatto (Bixa Orellana)

Annatto

Origin

A sunny pigment ranging from warm red to bright yellow, annatto is derived from the seeds within the heart-shaped pods of the achiote tree. In Central and South America, it was traditionally used to create body paint and makeup, so the plant is sometimes called the lipstick tree. It was utilized by the Maya and Aztecs as a symbolic substitute for blood in ritual. Achiote is also used in South American and Caribbean cuisine—in addition to its concentrated color, it also has a nutty, spiced aroma.

Alchemy

Annatto pigment lends some Rituel de Fille colors a distinct vibrance and warmth.  It is the primary pigment in Bloodroot Enchanted Lip Sheer, and enhances the hue of Delirium Inner Glow Cream Blush.
